If there is one thing I am sure of about online teams for college, it’s that it isn’t as great as people may think. Heck, do people even think their easy? I don’t. I believe that it would be easy (even smooth sailing), but only if your team actually worked together and took the team assignments seriously.
I’m currently enrolled into University of Phoenix, so all my classes are online at the moment until I move close to a campus. I am told that on campus life, they have teams too, but it’s obviously different from online teams. I am sure that it is, and I wonder to myself if students on campus work together and take their work seriously within their teams, because I don’t think people who take online courses do.
I’ve already taken about 5 online classes so far, and in each one (except for my first orientation class) had team members giving excuses on why they can’t attend the online team meeting in ‘real time’ rather than on the student forums. Not only that, but I’ve picked up all my teams slack in each course, and I am 100% positive that I’m getting sick of it. It’s like; do these people care about their grades? Why did they even go to college if they are only going to half ass it?
Not only that, but I make it clear on what our Instructor wants from our teams, and they have all made it perfectly clear that meeting once a week is mandatory. So in the end, I’m fed up with it, and if I have to pick up my teams slack again in this new course, I’m going to mentally punch every single one of them in the face, then of course demand a new team asap!
